Do government / international schools for children prefer locally located residents?

We will bemoving from Tai po market NT, to Sheung shui. The kids go to areputable government kindergarten in Tai po market, and we hope forthem to go to a very reputable english speaking government primaryschool in Tai po. Unfortunately we have to move. Is there a reputable school in sheung shui, preferably english speaking and government?

Importantly, if we were still to choose this reputable english speaking governmentprimary school in Tai po, would we not be at a disadvantage having anon Tai po home address when the school selects?

    thanks for help

When you apply for primary school placement you get 2 chances .first round is a computer drawn lucky dip where you can choose a tai po school no matter where you live . You probably won't be successful . The second round is compulsory computer allocation according to your school district . Go to ed dept Web site find out which school district number sheng shui is in and rank schools according to your preference one to ten . You will get one of these

I'd try to keep them in the school where they are now (specially if there's a "through train" to your preferred primary school).

Government subvented EMI primary schools are thin on the ground in the NT. I don't know about the EDB office closest to your location, but the one in Tuen Mun has been really helpful in getting kids from non-Chinese speaking families into an appropriate school when necessary.

    thanks for reply chingleutsch,
yes, we will be keeping them in current kindergarten, it is a well respected one, Government assisted one.
there is no guaranteed "through train" to our preferred primary school, just the chances would be higher l think if we stayed in tai po market. do you actually know of any Government subvented EMI primary schools in Tai po or Sheung shui? or where l could look it up? they do speak chinese and english as spouse is a native english speaker, speaking only english to them.
