    Rewarding colleagues / subordinates

A couple of my (female) colleagues have been working extremely hard on one of my projects. It is also quite stressful for them (and me!).

I want to say thank you to them, and I'm thinking of buying them a spa treatment at one of the better hotels in Hong Kong. A couple of questions - they are the kind of people who would say no if I asked them first, so I want it to be a surprise. So, is a spa a suitable reward? Do all ladies like spas? If not a spa, any alternative?

    Thanks

A small but nice token of appreciation + a cash or equivalent bonus (https://www.dahsing.com/en/html/cred...ngiftcard.html perhaps?)

Not good to make an expectation out of it.

If you are the boss, just give them an appreciation bonus at the end of the year. If not, make sure senior management knows about it in a formal e-mail.

What I use to do was treat them to a slap up dinner at my own expense.

Thanks both. You got me thinking more.

I'm not the boss, so while I'm happy to write an appraisal that means they are likely to get a bonus, I cannot directly ensure that they get it.

Dinner - yes, will probably do, but also prefer something else which does not involve me.

The Dah Sing Bank limited personal credit card looks good, but I'm not sure if they'd like what would be basically cash from me. While I am in a higher position to them, they are not my direct subordinates, and our relationship is also as friend as well as colleagues. I'm not sure I'd feel right about accepting a cash gift (whether straight cash or in the form of a credit card) from a friend as opposed from my company.

Nice idea! Yes, most ladies like spas. Suggest buying them gift vouchers for a spa so they can choose their own treatment(s) etc.

I just take people to lunch and a larger then usual lye see pack during the holidays.
