Depends on what you do, and what you do well. If your wife is a permanent resident, you can work here. If you can speak Phutongua, there are several cross border opportunities...

    Daltera,
yes, so far, all the jobs that i found that asked for between 2 to 5 years only pay around 30,000. that's why i rather see they ask for 5 to 10 years of IT experience and pay 40,000. I have 15 years, that is what i mean by over qualify.

and the interviews that i got, only over the phone. Either they can't wait for few months, or they won't pay more.

When you say they can't wait for few months, do u mean that they can neither wait nor paying over 30000? or simply for all the jobs you never got over 30000?

Also, what do u do in IT currently? what are your skill sets, if you don't mind?

    Thanks

My family here is too boring and so is singapore but in Hongkong it is full of life and fun there. But I need to be realistic in life, any jobs out there in Hongkong ready to accept a Singaporean?

May I ask what u do for a living? why delivered in HK? Unless Singapore's medical is poor, or something else...I can understand the "boring" part is for us N. Americans; at least you people enjoyed the sunshine and nice weather, not like us buried under the snow for most of the time.

My wife is 100% hongkong people and because of me she came to Singapore to be with me for the past 10yrs and now I am looking forward to going back to Hongkong but.. I seems to be very worry of finding a job there. I am a Singaporean Chinese and speak Putonghua but more in Jian di and not in Fan di Chinese so its very difficult for me to understand the Mandarin and the way of writing. Knowitall, how can I look for a job in Hongkong and how r they going to sponsor me?

    Hi Daltera,

I am not in the IT line as these threads have been going but in Logistics line. Grad in BBUS in Log with 3 yrs exp, Adv Dip in Mktg and Dip in Me with 7 yrs exp but looking through the net there seems to have no job for me in Hongkong. I cant just go back there with my wife and start looking for a job with a 3 month tourist duration.

Its so hot and humid in Singapore and everyday we have to get ourselves burnt. Well at least u can enjoy the four seasons. I like hongkong weather but not the typhoon. One thing for such Singapore medical is one of the best in the world compared to Hongkong (Not offending anyone on this) but the pace and lifestyle is much boring compared to Hongkong energtic and lifely culture. Its fun and very family type. I dont know about the rest but my family in Singapore is very boring and status type so I have been trying to find a job in Hongkong. One last thing, How did u manage to find a job in Hongkong? Whats your lead here?

Try jobsDB.com. Also I've got some agent contacts and some old friends/classmates (from HK and Canada). As for Logistics jobs, I thought that field is quite hot these days esp in China trade and HK. Jian Ti characters works for u that way! not me LOL. Good luck.

    Think Twice and Hard!

I left U.K. to come to work and live in Hong KOng after graduating. It an exciting place if your free young and single etc.

However, now I am married and with a child, our family will relocate back to U.K.

Hong Kong is not a family oriented place. Your children will have to go to private international schools which are very expensive. The pollution is becoming unbearable. The summer humidity and heat is exhausting. The over crowded general environment makes it a rat race! Working environment is extremely competitive and stressful. Accomdation is cramp for families and expensive.

Think hard and explore before making a move to Hong Kong.

    Daltera,
My family was pretty much in the same situation back around 96/1997. I was 12 years old back then and my parents debated/argued for a very long time. They ended up separating, my Dad and I moving to California and my Mom staying in HK as a music teacher. 10 years later, I am now 22 and just graduated from college. My parents are living good lifes in two different places, even though one makes way more money than the other. It really depends what kind of lifestyle you can accept, sharkfins rice or Wonton noodles, it's going to be a choice, for you and your family. I'm a youngster so my idea of a good life might be different than you and other people who has a family to consider. I am going back to Hong Kong to look for a job this summer even though I know i'll be making much less money than in Nor. Cal (silicon Valley). I wanted to go just becasue i wanted a change of lifestyle and i'm have nothing to worry about. I am just following my heart. It's risky but that's what my plan is.
HAVING said that, I am also very grateful to my family for bringing me over to the US where I definitly got a better education. Had i stayed in HK for school, i would probably not have that big a chnace of advancing before F.5. So i respect my parents for makign that decision and their sacrifice. I think the education aspect is the most certain of advantage that oversea has over HK.

Anywayz, I'm just a kid with very little experience in life so i don't mind if you don't take me seriously. It's a big deliema but i know that you'll be very careful with this decision and make the right choice for you and your family. =)
