They ended up separating, my Dad and I moving to California and my Mom staying in HK as a music teacher. 10 years later, I am now 22 and just graduated from college. My parents are living good lifes in two different places, even though one makes way more money than the other. It really depends what kind of lifestyle you can accept, sharkfins rice or Wonton noodles, it's going to be a choice, for you and your family. I'm a youngster so my idea of a good life might be different than you and other people who has a family to consider. I am going back to Hong Kong to look for a job this summer even though I know i'll be making much less money than in Nor. Cal (silicon Valley). I wanted to go just becasue i wanted a change of lifestyle and i'm have nothing to worry about. I am just following my heart. It's risky but that's what my plan is.
HAVING said that, I am also very grateful to my family for bringing me over to the US where I definitly got a better education. Had i stayed in HK for school, i would probably not have that big a chnace of advancing before F.5. So i respect my parents for makign that decision and their sacrifice. I think the education aspect is the most certain of advantage that oversea has over HK.

Anywayz, I'm just a kid with very little experience in life so i don't mind if you don't take me seriously. It's a big deliema but i know that you'll be very careful with this decision and make the right choice for you and your family. =)
I'm proud of you. I think when you are 22 you can make these decisions with minimal risk. I'm 32 (old fart heheh) and have been in the US since I was 8. I'm finally moving back to HK this summer for sure! My parents are actually back in HK now and it is a really big decision for me to actually decide to move back FINALLY! The US is "safe" and "familiar" whereas HK will be a completely different experience / corporate culture. I even moved from LA to New york (less boring) but ultimately I think I am following my heart. Financially I don't think I will have as much of an issue as with others who may have kids etc (we're a dual income gay HH w/o kids) So that's one thing I would totally give credit to others making the move. Apparently HK's cost of living is supposed to be very high - higher than NYC! Talking to some headhunters now, hopefully I'll be making the same if not more than in the US - but then again I'm not in IT so that's kinda different. Good luck with your job hunt! You're young enough, and will do FINE!!

OH.. my Hongkong needs serious adjustments .. it is really different from where most of us grew up in or had lived and worked....

I am sorry to say but I am still not adjusted and it gets worst when I cross the streets or ride the MTR or take the lift...
