That being said, I know several ladies that have met the man of their dreams in HK...
Over the years, I can think of two "western" women (here meaning: white) who came to HK - one for work, the other grad-studies - and without seriously "seeking", 'bout a year later, found their best mates for life.

NB: Their guys -> both Asian: a well-travelled, overseas HKer, and a similarly non-traditional, fun-loving Korean - both a few years younger than their partners. I recall them having quite a bit to say when, a little apprehensively... encountering respective future in-laws, and navigating ol' ceremonial customs, meeting certain expectations etc All a learning curve.

    Hope - hallelujah...

Gilly - Keep an open mind; you'll be fine.

This is highly classified information that you've just revealed.

Well now that this secret's out, I'll just add that its 100% truth. In fact, this applies 10-fold to repatriated mainland guys. *inconspicuously points to self*

Ladies, where you at?....Its peanut butter jelly time

hahaha, with the overpopulated males in mainland china, seriously wouldn't be worried about anything at all.

From what I hear from Aussie women I know in their thirties, you can forget about it. I don't think the type of guy you would be interested would be in HK and happen to be single. Most come already attached or with the intention of being attached a few times every weekend with a new girl

Not that Sydney is much better for women, what with all the men competing for ..well, men. Any chance you can work somewhere in Europe where you won't get stupid comments like 'oh, you're 37 and still single'...

By the way, there's nothing wrong with wanting to move to a place where you could possibly find someone to settle down with. It's funny how it's acceptable to move countries for work opportunities but not for love opportunities!

Mid Thirties women in HK are very commonplace so its not really that big an issue.

Well, yes. I am divorced and in my mid 40s and can see no viable reason to settle with one girl when there are so many gorgeous 20 somethings wanting marriage. How (or perhaps more accurately, why ) on earth would I choose just one girl when so many eligible girls are available and I have no intention of remarriage? This is a 'dilemma' faced by many single gweilos in HK.

It is perfectly possible to have a different girl every week in HK. It works both ways of course: many of the best-looking girls in HK also have several guys in tow. The only difference is that guys don't have to be good-looking or in good-shape or even that rich to take their pick.

However, I do take the view that even for guys in HK it can be very hard to find a permanent relationship as it is hard to be sure if many of the non-local Asian girls are really in to you or just want a visa and
an easier and better life financially. That is one thing that certainly keeps me on my toes.

Since everyone here is being brutally honest.. Another thing that should keep you on your toes is that you are not getting any younger, mate! . If you want a quality female in the end, you can't go around having multiple gals eevery weekend indefinitely.. This lifestyle aint gonna last forever. I've met a number of guys in their mid to late forties here who are fit, intelligent and obviously good looking in their day and have had fun playing the field (the time for which is definitely extended here in HK) but getting just too old for some of the younger discerning gals.. Not that I am ageist, but just an observation..

Ha ha, excellent. I too like this idea guys have that no matter how unattractive or old they are they can and will keep getting action as long as they are in HK. This might be the case but it certainly won't be from quality chicks and really, what's the point of it all if you can't show her in public?

Hot 20 year olds have their pick and a 50 year old (that's what Shilo will soon be) without lots of cash won't be it. (note, I said 'hot', not 'desperate to escape circumstance') I suggest a rethink on the no marriage policy. Grab a 20 year old while you can and be grateful

Agreed.. the bad behavious is infectious...I think it's a combination of the alcholic night life (where else can ladies have unlimited alcoholic beverages on certain nights of the week?!) and the fact that there are so many people packed in such a small space. One of my observations here is that on any given weekend night (and even weeknights) mobile guys and girls out at the bars can text easily multiple people of the opposite sex at midnight or later to dangle potential hookups...rarely does this 'socialising' turn out to be meaningful although yes there are always exceptions
