As far as I know, you can’t “press charges” here as they do in the US, so if the police / prosecutors have charged her with something, then they must have some evidence. Throwing things from high floors is taken pretty seriously in HK, no matter whether the window overlooks trees or the street. Your friend could be in trouble. If she has a lawyer, the she should follow his/her advice. The lawyer is not there to answer “what if” questions, so if the case has been heard, it’s just a matter of waiting for the verdict or next court date.

If the husband has changed his story, then he either lied in his initial statement to the police, or he is perjuring himself by lying to the court. Neither is a good idea - wasting police time and perjury can both land him in trouble.

I agree with newhkpr - everyone sounds awful in this story

Agreed, which of the many twats in this scenario pushed it to court. I'll give you a clue, they all work for the HK govt....

she said the husband always control freak. her lawyer actually not saying much ,always saying lets wait for the verdict.she feel hopeless and hanged .

You say, she is waiting for the 'verdict'. The verdict from whom?

5 questions to for you to answer simply and clearly (no rambling, just short clear answers):

    1) What crime is she accused of?
    2) Has she been charged by the police or are they only investigating the incident currently?
    3) Has she had to appear in court yet? If so, how many times?
    4) How long ago did the incident allegedly occur? (Days? Weeks? Months?) - be precise.
    5) Is there any CCTV footage or independant witnesses showing a suitcase falling from the window?

FYI. If the husband is the only witness to the event and he refuses to testify in court then there will probably be insufficient evidence to prosecute. He could easily say he saw a mangled suitcase on the ground outside and thought maybe his wife threw it, but he was mistaken....

Lying to the police IS NOT something anybody should be worried about - The police will do nothing at all about falsifying statements. Just make sure all lies are simple and as close to the truth as possible.

The husband should understand that he will ruin his wife's life completely if he testifies against her - He should find other ways to resolve marital issues.

If she's a victim of domestic violence she should seek help from a charitable organisation (not my area of expertise, others can advise) and get out of the relationship immediately.

Presuming the person that got hit by the suitcase would care

As the Americans say, fuck around and find out.

Everyone is a problematic person in this story apart from the tree which caught the suitcase which may or may not have been launched out of the window.
