    Joke

Yes, it must be a joke, I have applied for several jobs and very few pay more than 30-40 per month. I dont know many people making more than that unless they are in finance.

Just don't think Mid-0levels are the only place to live. Rent and food there adds soooo much to cost of living day by day. I live like a Chinese in most ways and save my money for the things my wife and I really want.

Bogs was worried about surviving on 65k and you want him to buy you a drink?
    don't hold your breath baby.

Boggs, don't be put off by the astounding response to your simple question. It may seem like a joke to those living here, but for those abroad hearing the HK is one of the most expensive places on earth, maybe its just a logical questions. Really, this forum is usually much more hospitable.

Yes, you'll be fine on 65k a month. Yes, plenty of people make more (I am considering taking a drastic cut to around 65 seeking greater peace of mind and quality of life). Yes, even more people make less. Your own needs determine whether it is enough. Do you have mortgages abroad? Are you hit badly tax wise in your home jurisdiction? Are you already successful enough that coming here will be interesting, but still a reduced lifestyle? Will your post offer opportunities like time for travel in the area that can make up for any downsides? At 65k, unless you are spending in the very common 35k+ range for housing and decided to live the high life every night, you will have ample funds. Enjoy! Personally, I have gone for a much more reasonable 15k for housing, love Kowloon-side for its less expat orientation yet close enough for the "fix" we all need.

thanks JJexpat, most useful. I ask a simple question, and get a few strange/sarcastic answers. What is the 'fix' you speak of?
    thanks again

the 'fix' bogs, the 'fix.' if you don't know what it is, you're best not ever finding out. you'll be thankful for it.

methinks that jjexpat is alluding to a much needed, and appreciated java jolt - anything more sinister would not have seen light of day thanks to the ever vigilant K I A.

omg... the fix I was referring to is the need to connect with other expats now and then... I choose to live in an old building (tho very nice flat) at Fa Hui, I work in an entirely Chinese environment and being at the top, it's a rather isolated role under constant assault...so now and then I head to HK island friends...usually the FCC, or my Bollywood class, or dinner etc. Back to the 65k, it is actually a good wage here, a very good one for locals. But to enter the realm of the priveleged, it is the housing allowance that makes a difference. Some people get an enormous allowance along with that salary and therefore live in an entirely different world populated almost exclusively with expats and overseas educated Chinese.
