    closets and lighting

Greetings: This may seem like a dumb question...but I am moving to Hong Kong from Switzerland where we generally supply our own armoires or closets! Are closets usually built into apartments in HK or should I ship mine. Also re lighting fixtures - do apartments usually come with fixtures or just the bulb and/or the wires hanging. Anything else I should know. The movers will be here shortly and the furniture is going into storage for a bit...so I need to know what to bring and what not to bother with. Although I previously asked about appliances, I am still not quite clear about TV's and DVD's....will they work if 220 in HK. Thanks so much. Marl

Depends on the flat. Most affordable flats in HK do not come with closets. That said, with enough searching you can find a place with closet or nice built-in wardrobes.

See above. Of 4 flats I've lived in here, 1 has had light fixtures that were passable. Two were bare bulbs and one was decorated in 1970s fashion. You should be able to find an electrician to change them for 100HKD or less. Most neighborhood lighting stores will either offer that service or direct you to someone who does.

Voltage is 220 with the fat square plugs. Not so sure about the TV format. You can get region-free DVD players here, so you can bring your whole collection and continue adding.
