My M-I-L is also Hakka and she speaks to me in a mixture of Hakka and Canto - so I have had to learn a bit just so I know wtf she is on about. She'll start a sentence in canto and will have slipped to hakka by the end. Gets very confusing...

The hakka speakers in UK were doing it so that other BBCs couldn't understand them dissing others. BBCs in the UK was not an exclusive enough group for them... haha!
