    Single expats over 30

My company is trying to convince me to transfer to HK- am quite psyched by the idea (dream job), but there's one thing that kind of worries me when I picture life there with you guys - I'm a single woman in my late thirties. Seems to me that most expats are either singles in their twenties, or married couples. Am not asking if there are loads of single expat guys out there to hook up with, but I'm going to miss my girlfriends here in NY a lot - are there many "older" singles out there for me to hang out with, or am I just going to have to get down with the kids and/or hope the marrieds don't mind me tagging along?

Though on the subject of hooking up, any "we met on a junk in HK and never looked back" love stories you can inspire me with?

    Martha

There are a lot of singles in their thirties so don't worry too much about it, A lot of my friends are of a similar age too so you shouldn't have to worry as there are a lot of social gatherings going on either through here or via facebook.

When you arrive feel free to join in any of the social gatherings and i'm sure you'll have fun. Oh and if you're on facebook join the geoexpat group so you'll get an idea of what we all look like etc

Heaps of single mid-late thirty women in Hong Kong and there are just as many guys single the same age.
    You'll be fine!

Hong Kong's a great place and much easier to meet people than most cities. Everyone's a lot friendlier and more sociable too. It's not that unusual to go out after work most nights.

HK's a great place if you're looking for a social life and group of friends because there are a lot of really nice people here and a lot of places to go.

However, if, deep down in your heart of hearts, you're hoping to meet the man of your dreams out here, then bear in mind that the pool you're fishing in is smaller than you're used to and there's a lot of competitive anglers out there! That's not to say it can't happen though.

Yes, and also age doesn't seem to matter... everybody mixes.

It looks like you would rather hang with other women of your age group and social status than with men. That leaves out the over 30 male libertines, who will perforce be thrown into the arms of the "singles in their twenties."
