I moved from China a while back and also had a choice between Singapore and Hong Kong. I do like Singapore. I lived there for 5 years from age 25 and had a ball - it can be a lot of fun for single people as well as families. It holds great memories for me and I have a lot of friends there. I was in favour of moving back to Singapore but ended up in HK because of my partner's preference. Now that I have spent a year here, however, I don't think I would consider moving back to Singapore in the future. In fact, after only six months here we decided to buy a house. Hong Kong has so much more depth for me and is so much more of a real life somehow. I think it also depends on your future plans. If you are looking at a couple of years in the far east then Singapore might be very nice for you, but HK is a much better place to stay long term I think. Singapore just gets too small and bland after a while. Everything seems to stay the same. HK has so much more character - from the people to the dramatic scenery. The city has a dynamism that Singapore just doesn't have - so much more energy. And you have many more choices in terms of lifestyle. In Singapore you can live in a condo, a condo or a condo. In Hong Kong you can live on the beach in Shek O, an apartment in Happy Valley, a house in Saikung, you can live on one of the islands. There are so many lifestyle choices.
