How does this sound - 30 cubic feet or ~0.8m3 from UK (Liverpool) to HK (Central) for HKD 6000 by sea in 2 months.
Sounds dear to me, what's your experience?

Sounds a lot - we had 8 cubic metres for roughly $30000
Could be because it's a relatively small shipment and they may have minimum charges. Have you investigated other methods of shipping it?
The transit should be 35 days max for LCL ( lots of peoples stuff in one container ) cargo to HK. Door to Door.
Sea UK mainport to HK is 21 days BUT LPL transits through Rotterdam or Hamburg. It may be that your shipping agent does not have a lot of LCL through LPL. So ask for a quote Felixstowe or Southampton.
The price on the face of it seems a little high HOWEVER you don't say in UK where you are. You have to factor inland haulage ( UK not cheap ), Packing ( in a container at distribution point ) outbound, Customs and Port handling. Then unpacking here, haulage ( not expensive ) customs clearance and port charges. There is no import tax for domestic items.
For such a small amount then maybe it just seems expensive and even though you may get another cheaper quote, it should not be that much lower.
FYI - the price per CBM is not high going eastward by sea, its the other stuff that kills it. Get quotes for 4 companies and have an itemised quote.
http://www.sevenseasworldwide quote GBP325 door to door or GBP210 door to depot with a maximum time of 70 days for seven tea chests (about 0.85 m3) if what you have is amenable to being packed like that.
They would do it door to depot by air for GBP450 in 14 days.
(Door to depot means you'd have to go and collect it and process it through customs etc.)
