I wouldn't mind living the frugal life, I'd try it out as long as I could survive...Thanks for giving me a rough idea of what kind of salary to expect from a junior admin post though, had no idea what to expect.

A dream? You only live once!!
For many people it works out, for others it doesn't and they go home. But at least they won't spend the rest of their life thinking "what if".
I find it quite bemusing myself. I put it down to the belief that you can turn up Sunday with your tie died loon pants and back pack (as many did before '97) - live in Chunqing one day, sell sandwiches the next and be managing a bank by Thursday. Which doesn't happen now. In fact never did and most of the people that did get on - certainly the ones I know who have stayed - worked f' hard to achieve what they did (only to then blow everything on a drugs n hookers).*
* Not that that's a bad thing.
True - it's not so easy to make it these days. Which means you should give even more respect to the people who give it a go.
I agree - you do only live once and for some people, it's worth the risk! I'm fully aware that it might not work out for me and I might end up coming back but I don't want to have any regrets. I'm still going to have friends and family in the UK to come back to so it's not a situation I won't know how to get out of.
Why not give Dhaka a try - it's a happening place with loads of opportunities & your money will go a lot further. Honest.
HK's where I really want to be....it's where my folks are from and I still have a lot of family over there, as well as friends. That's why I'm considering life there as I know I already have a network of people there if I go over alone.
I did consider teaching English as a foreign language but I've heard that a degree is still often required or is preferable? And no, don't have a heavy Scottish accent!
Hey HongKong Foot, thanks for clarifying that
I know I'm not exactly going over there well prepared (with no job lined up and no Cantonese skills!) but I'll see what happens. It will be an extended holiday if anything.
