You'll get a dependants Visa but you'll still have to get the hiring company to sponsor you for a work visa.

My understanding is that this advice is wrong. If you marry a HK Citizen (or Permanent Resident) then you will get a dependent visa which does allow you to work without any further paperwork.

Yes, I believe there are two types of dependents.

1/ Dependent on person with a work visa: This type of dependent cannot work without being sponsored.
2/ Dependent on a permanent resident: This type of dependent can work freely.

A few years ago, even type 1/ could work freely - but unfortunately for me, those days have gone.

not a visa specialist but as far as I know this is correct.

Dependants of PRs and HK Citizens can work freely, no problem.

Other dependants can work freely if they got their dependant visa before July 1, 2003 (or even if their application reached Immigration before that date, and evenutally got approved). Otherwise, can't work without getting work visa of their own.

i see, my gf is hk citizen, i m very confuse about my choise, whether to stay in indonesia with my hk gf or stay in hk with her.
indonesia is a terrorists nest, a very high criminal, i never walked alone in the street, and never took a public bus, too dangerous, used to drive a car, not like hk, everyone fell so free and secure walking along the street, my gf feels unsecure in indonesia, but i m chinese indonesian, born and live in indonesia, i think indonesia is easier to make living rather than hk, and everything is cheap, house, food. etc.
if i come to hk, i have to start from the beginning, learning cantonese, etc.

Columbus would have never discovered America if he had not ventured out and got lost.
