Exclamation moving to HK b/c of g/f

    Hi all,

My girlfriend is from HK. I met her here in the US. I'm from Europe, but want to move to HK with her next year.

Here's the deal...what do I need to do as far as visas go to get in?

Also...I'm a musician, so if there are any musicians here or maybe someone who happens to read this thread who isn't a musician, but knows one, could help me find a gig.

All help is very much appreciated

    Thanks

You may want to look at HKCLubbing.Com. Lots of musicians, DJs on there. Unless you're into classical ...

Thumbs up thanks for the replies keep them coming

Thanks for the replies, keep them coming.

For those interested, I am a drummer, bassist, and guitarist. I have a bachelor's degree from Berklee College of Music (see www.berklee.edu if you haven't heared of the school.)

I have studied most styles. I have done a lot of work in the classical field but I am a pop/rock guy.

My major field of study was songwriting. I have played all instruments listed above for over 15 years.

I would like to do some session work. I think it would be very interesting to do some gigs backing some cantonese pop artists.

Hope this info gives one some insight as to what I can do...

...and as said, keep those replies coming...

    HK music scene sux

My advice is don't come here. The scene totally sux. all the good musicians have left town or are on their way out, including me. There are no venues to play anymore. I am a jazz drummer and have been here for 3 years. The scene died about 1.5 years ago. Also I am an agent as well and there's no work here except canto pop, the cheesiest music ever imaginable. It pays good money if you are into selling your musical integrity, but even if you want to get in, it is really hard as all the present musicians guard their positions with their life.

    Mixing of music

yeah, I agree with you that hk music scene really sucks. However, my bf is coming to hk from Sydney shortly, and he's also interested in getting a job and explore the market here. He's not a musician, but he's doing mixing of sound and music quite well. Do you have any idea of such kinda job market and opportunity in HK? Pls give me some idea. Thanks!
