Er, right above Fenwicks... hmmm. Well it won't be dead quiet at night, that's for sure.
(Fenwicks is essentially a brothel for freelancers and it's open more or less until dawn most days, in case you weren't aware.)

That's what I just found out and am worried about... so what do you guys think about this building? Is it frequented by um, working girls? Will it be a bit unsafe for me to live there?
Fenwicks is in the basement of the building, the working girls don't live in the apartments above. However, they will be clustered out front in the late evenings. They won't bother you, they only accost white guys that walk by, and even then not all the time. I rarely get spoken to on my way by.
ok, so apart from maybe getting looks from some men that's shopping for the ladies, I'll probably be ok...
Hi,
My wife and kids all live in Wanchai on Lockhart Road. I have no worries about my wife coming home late. The biggest problem is for men with the mamasans trying to pull in punters to the girlie bars. As long as you live on a high floor the noise level is acceptable, but you can tell the difference from other areas, mainly idiot drivers and their horns at two am. I love it in Wanchai, Hungry at 4am, no problem, plus can watch the footy in the bars and be home three minutes later.
Basically it's safe

Ok, that makes me feel better. Maybe I can even meet some of you all at a football match sometime since I'm so close.
Lots of good food in the area too. Jojo's (Indian) has a great lunch buffet and they are kitty corner to your building. My office is only a block away and I hit it frequently
i work round the block as well: as said, very lively, lots of bars and restaurants, lots of shops and very safe.
if u're in trouble, once known by people (and girls) living and working there, they might even take more care of you than other shop tenders round the corner. and this is true worldwide!
enjoy...
And Ebeneezer's down the road always open for a bite - you can bring it back home too. Shouldn't have any problem with that bldg - as mentioned by the sensible sylvesterjay, you can always avoid the aforementioned basement.Originally Posted by gweilo:
hah, fenwicks is seedy as hell. at least you can say you lived over a hk icon though...lol...you're safer in wanchai than you are in the lower east side so don't even worry about it.
