    Help with helper situation!

I have repeated asked my helper not to leave food in her room since she opens her window and we live in a huge apartment complex (her window right next to kitchen) - I just can imagine bugs getting in to our home by the smell of foods. (we've found a huge gecko behind our frig before, and we have a baby and sanitary is really a huge concern)

She would always say "yes" but I would always see food laying around in her room later.. It's happened at least 5 times. Do you have similar problems with your helper telling you yes but keeps doing what she prefers to do? How do you solve this problem? I really need help. I tried to explain to her sanitary is my only concern is she is welcome to put her food in the frig and in our cabinets and she has always said okay and apologize. I am really getting tired of this tactic - Passive aggressive behavior. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

make a note of each time you speak to her about this incident and get her to sign a statement confirming this.

Say to her if it happens again then she will recieve a written warning and any issues afterwards can and will end up as a sacking.

I'm not sure she's being passive aggressive, she probably feels she's not in a position to say anything other than yes to you, so that's what she'll say.
Try finding out why she's keeping food in there, rather than the kitchen.
Can you get her a tiny fridge and a airproof container, for her to keep the food in, inside her room?

I suggest in that case you don't let your baby drink gecko urine. Have you done a google search on this? You might find there is a good support group or forum that deals with this issue and can advise appropriately.

    HKNewBi,

Brilliant! You should have kept that for 1st April though!

I just love the concept of
    Hong Kong Gecko-urine Drinkers Anonymous...

Remember that a lot of places in asia when a member of staff say "yes" it does not mean yes i will do it it means yes i heard u!
We had similar situations in Vietnam with our staff until we realised what the cultural differences were!
Maybe u should get her a small fridge and insist that all food be kept in it.. if only for ur peace of mind!
As for geckos!! well i am sorry but u live in Asia and they r everywhere!
They are harmless and have been around for millions of years without causing to much damage! besides from their wretched high pitched squeak!
Our daughter used to name the geckos is vietnam and i never found that it would sit over her and pee!!
sorry for the sarcasm but when children crawl along the floor they probably pick up more bacteria than any gecko could give them!
