    Commissioners of Oath in HK

    Where do I find a commisioner of oath in Hong Kong? I merely need one to verify that a copy of my passport is a true copy.

    Can I go to any police station? I called the Stanley police station but the officer said the "legal department" handles such matters...?

    Thanks!

    Commissioners of Oaths take Statutory Declarations at the Public Service Enquiry Centres at specific times. Details here: Home Affairs Department - Public Services - Public Enquiry Service - Services Provided

    The way it works is that you make a Statutory Declaration on the form provided at the office that the attached copy is a true copy of your passport, and you then swear an oath in front of the Commissioner that what you have written is true. S/he then stamps and signs it.

    The advantage of the Statutory Declaration being that it is free

    Yes, I know. I should have written "Or you can cough up for a Notary".

    Solicitor = Commissioner for Oaths

    All solicitors in HK are commissioners for oaths. If you know one they can also sign for you.

    See: S.7A Legal Practitioners Ordinance - http://www.hklii.hk/eng/hk/legis/ord/159/s7a.html
