Calls to the U.S. and elsewhere

Can someone advise me on how to get a cheap calling plan? We do not have long distance yet on our home phone and I am not sure if it is better to go with a calling card. I have heard of Zone 1511 but have found their site to be confusing. Can someone point me in the right direction? I am curious about calls made from my home, but also from my mobile occassionally.

    Thanks.

0060 - PCCW has reasonable rates. We switched from Zone 1511 to PCCW at work a few months ago.

Zone 1511 is ok, but they tend to "negotiate" everything. We had good rates, when 0060 came and showed us the plan, it looked cheaper. We told Zone 1511 we were switching and they came back to us with a counter offer, which we rejected on the principle -- you're supposed to have been giving us the best rates possible.

It is technically a bit more expensive than Zone 1511, but does end up easier to use if you're intimidated by zone 1511's site.

You can also use 0060 on land and mobile lines.

I am also looking for an economical way to call the US, CHINA, Japan, I have called 1511, and their cost for CHINA, USA, Japan are 0.25, 0.25, and 0.49 respectively
to land lines. Is there other options available in Hong Kong.

    Hi Knowitall,

how much does PCCW charge for calling to India. 1511 charges approx. Their website says around 10.5$ per minute. Am I missing something.

Sankar, I also think you've made your point... Zone 1511 is probably more affordable for India.

We've had this discussion ad nauseum on the site and we still don't think people need to promote Zone 1511 but posting their salesmen's phone numbers.

I am using 009 (New World Telecom) IDD which costs me HK$0.50 to the US and good rates to other countries (I can't find all the details).

I am also about to get 0080 (Hutchison) with 0.22 to USA (fixed or mobile), 0.13 to China, 0.33/1.30 to Japan (fixed/mobile), 0.33/0.88 to Taiwan.
The catch is that you need to do it through a business...

I ended up using 1511, trialling it for 3 month, the plan they gave me was 1000 minutes to US, China, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, Canada and UK for 300 HKD.
there are some restrictions such as US and China, mobile and land lines are including
but I think it is reasonable.

    Zone1511

Shankar, i am using Zone 1511 for calling india and they give me a rate of 2.99 per minute. The quality isnt as good as PCCW but its not bad at all.

Knowitall is right... Zone1511 negotiates prices all the time. I used to pay 3.99 previously for bad quality at zone1511, then i went back to india for 3 mnths and dint use their service, so to woo me back they came back with an offer of 2.99/minute.

If you are using zone1511, u shud definately negotiate.

Does anyone know of a cheap but reliable calling card for calling India? Please include the charge and the number of minutes of call it supports. Cheers.
