I started a Cantonese course at the YMCA in TST but had to drop out for various reasons (laziness, incompetence etc ). I did a few lessons and it was ok, but a fairly large class (about 15-20 I think) and a lot of working round the class repeating one phrase each, so not very dynamic.

The main reason I went for that one was cost - around $900 for 10 lessons I think, compared to some really high prices elsewhere. If you can motivate yourself to continue the work outside the class it's probably fine.

    Learn Cantonese from a Norwegian

I took one Cantonese lesson from a Norwegian lady. She has a novel concept where she teaches you good everyday stuff and she teaches you in a bar. I hired her for a me and a group of friends for one private lesson in a bar.

I think she was very good and I learned a lot just from that one lesson. I'm not being a shill but check out her website http://www.happyjellyfish.com. You'll see what I mean.

She is a neighbour of mine and lets just say she has a pretty unorthodox way of going about stuff.
