how safe really is HK ?

is HK safer than lets say London ?.

is there like a yearly report on the crime figures ?.

many i meet from HK tell me its so safe, you could walk around / catch a taxi very late & alone without incident at all usually.

i have visited HK twice now and I feel safer than I do in my own country!


im a guy, and even im pretty afraid to go out at night walking here in london i always take the car !.

is it a better respect for the law over there in Hong Kong?, because over here, there is hardly any.


has anything bad happened to you, or someone else you know in HK?.
i have looked on youtube for trouble in HK, but there is only a few compared to the UK or USA lol.

You'll have to do some simple arithmetic to get an apples to apples comparison, as the first link shows absolute numbers and the second shows incidents per thousand of population.

There are other threads about this, but in a nutshell, yes it is far safer than most large cities. Yes, you can walk around by yourself late at night and not have to worry too much. But no matter how safe a particular area is, there's no reason to let your guard down. Violent crime does happen everywhere.

my friend was recently victim of asualt in the new terittory. she reported to the police and they siad that they are having a lot of problem with mainlanders here. i dun think you will have any problem on hk island or kowloon area though

Well, that appears to have been the only place he's tried to look for information so far. It's dead easy to find if you bother to look. Took me all of 5 seconds to dig up the numbers he had so much trouble finding.

Though if he's so afraid of London that he has to drive everywhere at night, he's got bigger things to worry about. Having lived there myself, some areas can be a bit dodgy, but it hardly warrants that much dread
