    Had another quick look at this. There actually doesn't seem to be a law saying that employees have to go home or do not come to work when there is a T8 or black rainstorm.

    What there is, is a general law saying that employer's have to take account their employee's health and safety.

    Further, there is a code of conduct issued by the government as a best practice guide on what do do under a T8 or a black rainstorm.

    Glad you posted that .. generally it is negotiated and several employers will offer an allowance / double salary type arrangements for essential personnel who need to be on duty.

    Wind speeds are looking high enough for a T8 if it swings Hong Kong-ward a bit.

    And besides, on a boat, we prefer NOT to have typhoons make direct hits on HK.

    The ones around HK do.... if anyone remembers the one that hit Philippines twice or the one last year near HK that did a 360 deg.

    Yes they do! They can wander about a lot and often make sharp unexpected turns.
