    If you think the nation state is transient, you probably watched a bit too much Star Trek. The borders are certainly very flexible but the association of groups of people battling against others has been going on since humans appeared on earth and in my view will continue until we're extinct unless you can somehow eliminate ambition, greed, jealousy and a few other fabulous human traits.

    Since you love to nitpick, more than half of HK was a part of China during the British lease and it made sense that it reverts to what China is today. In any case, they wouldn't have had it any other way so there wasn't much of a choice.

    Britain did well in ensuring that there wouldn't be any drastic changes in HK's way of life and left far more gracefully then it did in India...

    The time of the colonies has passed, empires are no more, Britain didn't really want to keep HK anymore and it made more sense that it reverts to what it always was, a part of China.
    I couldn't disagree anymore with GillesHK's point of view.
    Hopefully we can secure this statement for good, particularly that part that Britain is expected not to to have any intention to keep/take back HK anymore, otherwise that'd be another Boston Tea Party at Victoria Harbour. Somehow reminds me on BP Oil Party recently.

    @hullexile:
    just forget that part about PhD, just go home and grab your wife and dinner.

    I think on that note, it's time Shri closed this one down.

    Debating with Ferdy is like watching a one legged duck, swim in circles...

    And around it goes, again, and again, and again∞....................

    At least you can shoot the duck and eat it so it has some value.

    Dude, chill out! If you really enjoy that kinda sport, and if enjoyment is a value. You should then value people's life as well. This duck has a family, career, and dreams too.

    I was busy working at the office, and couldn't swim and answer your post at the same time.

    Ich denke, Ferdy ist kulturell verwirrt. Wahrscheinlich ein wenig unreif, sehr feucht hinter den Ohren ...

    In short... An angry young man... Just a passing phase, with a bit of luck .
    Das glaub ich nich! Mach lieber gar keinen Quatsch, Schatzi!

    Long story short, basically it's a statement of a young ambitious man who loves HK. Btw I read your previous post commenting about China and I think you are a little bit paranoid. You are as arrogant as so many Brits I've met, perhaps too many. You would love to see HK under your feet, but you can't accept HK is China as well. It sounds as if you've fear China will be so big, that there will be no more space left for your little ego.
