    Something nice.

I have had a crappy week. I am up to my eyeballs in work, sick of downturned faces and to top it all have been battling stomache flu for the last three days.

But I didn't write to complain, I only wrote to tell you about a tiny little something that happened on the way home which made me feel a little better. I was standing on the corner, waiting to cross the street and it started to rain, not enough to make me run for cover but enough to make me think 'this is just what I need' (feel free to use more expressive language in your own head...) Then someone nudged my elbow. Being Canadian (it takes longer than 10 years to get rid of old habits) I turned around and said sorry to the person who nudged me. It was a smiling Chinese woman holding an umbrella above my head.
    'Not get wet' she said.
    'Thank you' I said.
We walked together for two blocks and parted after she safely delivered me under the eves of my housing estate.

So... Thats it. Being a gweilo in Hong Kong I am accostomed to the smile and nod, the shove the baby your way and make it wave, the suspicious shuffle off to the side and the seat next to me on the MTR always being the last to be filled. But thats the way life is and thats how things happen in Hong Kong and I can accept that. I don't always like it but its not my homeland and I am a newcomer so I don't feel I need to complain.

All I really wanted to say was that this woman made my day. I hope you have a nice weekend. And if it rains, share your umbrella.

That is indeed a very nice gesture! I'm glad you could share it with us.

I maintain, all this place needs is a little positivity.
