    hi,

This maye be a silly question, but do all Australian passport holders need to vote this weekend?

If you are on an electoral roll, yes. If you don't, you will receive a fine in the mail. You can then call them up and explain you are overseas and they will usually waive the fine.

If you are a non-resident of Australia, then you should have taken yourself off the register.

So, no, not all Australian passport holders will be voting.

I am too lazy to take myself off the roll, and too lazy to do a postal vote or go to the consulate. So the last 4 elections I have been fined and managed to talk my way out of the fine. I guess Im a typical Aussie.

How do you ask to get taken off the electoral roll?

There is a form on the website that you can print and send/fax/email to the AEC.
    Easy: I'll be overseas

Its easier for me to head down the street to vote at the consulate. Has anyone been recently? Heard there were big queues.

Did you not get the email from the consulate about this? I did. There was a time limit about being enrolled (or not) ... I think it passed some weeks ago! There is an online site you check check to see if you are enrolled though, probably can google it.

    Here you go: https://oevf.aec.gov.au/

After Gillard called the election, you had exactly 1 day to get yourself on or off the roll. Then it closed. From memory she called it over a weekend and then you had until 8pm on the Monday to update the roll.
