Lucky you didn't have a machete!
Since nobody on here heard your conversation, who’s to say how you were coming over? It was a confined space, and maybe you were talking too loud, like you were trying to draw attention.
As for ‘(Chinese) genes’- you’d already mentioned your ethnicity, so is that for our benefit in case we’d forgotten? They didn’t actually say it, right?
“Can you be more civilized??????
Verbatim? Sounds unlikely. Sorry, think you’ve dressed that up too.
Anyway, thanks for one more racist titbit for the delectation of the assembled bien pensants who populate this board.
I always find it ironic to see someone calling another group of people racist... That in itself is a racist statement...
Do not pay attention to this accident. Some Europeans think they are the very centre of the Universe but in fact we know where the centre is ;-) I lived 4 years in Europe and would never forget them calling me an Eastern European. Even officials... Sweet Jesus... Sometimes I felt sorry that I could not kill them.
I wouldn't have wasted my time responding to their comment and continue my conversation in the same manner. Responding to a comment like this, showed at least a little respect but in this case they didn't even deserve that.

Bad example, Swiss German (Schweizerdeutsch) is not that close to High German, unless you meant to say Swiss Standard German.
Stupid idea, or is it somehow the restaurant's fault? Likely not, but you are making it theirs if you are actually good for your word, so rightfully you should be the one facing consequences for that.

I would have smiled and said, "certainly my dear".... And then proceeded to speak even louder. But....then again I'm a loud obnoxious american
No, I think it's fine - how many people who aren't fluent in German could tell the difference. I'd say pretty close to zero. I know I couldn't. I often have difficulty telling Spanish and Italian apart (at least if I can't see the person's hands ) so it's not unreasonable that a European shouldn't be able to differentiate Australian and American (which are far closer together than Spanish and Italian).
Really? I'd say most European's couldn't tell the difference between American and Canadian, and an Australian and New Zealand accent, but could between US and Oz. Surely all us Brits in particular watch nothing on tv apart from Friends and Neighbours all day when in the UK?!
