    Best beaches in HK?

    Hi there,

Just wondering can anyone recommend any beaches to go to in hong kong? Last time round while there on holiday, i went to golden beach (tuen mun), and the ones at discovery bay and stanley. Liked golden beach and i may indeed go there for a day again...

But, i would like to visit other ones when i go back. Any suggestions? Would prefer less touristy/busy beaches - and not necessarily going there for a suntan (i imagine it'll be too hot to lie on the beach!).

    Cheers,

clear water bay second beach is pretty decent as well as accessible by car and minibus ( but parking are usually full), more inaccessible beaches (require hiking or boat) such as trio/sam shing beach, tai long wan and half moon are evern better

I like to go to Ma Wan (need to take boat from Tsuen Wan West)
even though there's lots of tourists, because of the Ark - I really like the atmosphere of the island. There's bars, little restaurants alongside the beach.

There's a line of nice ones along South Lantau: Pui O, Cheung Sha (upper & lower) & Tong Fuk.

Golden Beach is lacking sand ... alot of it got washed away in typhoons last year. I think the ones on South Lantau that PDLM listed are nicer - although alot harder to get to!

I agree that all THE best beaches require a good hike and/or a boat trip.
On HK island I like St Stephen's (about 15 minutes walk from Stanley, on the other side of the peninsula) and Shek O, but the EPD's figures show the water quality at the latter has been a bit iffy this year
I like the Lantau beaches too, and on the closer islands I like the smaller one on Cheung Chau and both Hung Shing Yeh and Lo So Sing on Lamma - although on the Lamma ones you have to avoid looking in certain directions unless you want an eyeful of power station.
