Time to start new discussion threads on this new site so here goes.
Those of you who've never been to Shatin, plan on making a trip there soon. It's just a MTR + KCR ride away or Bus #680 from Central (in front of HSBC building)
Why should you go to Shatin ? Well there are lots of open spaces, greenery, the Shung Mun river that flows on and on, one of Hong Kong's few cycling tracks, hills in the background, great eating places including some very basic Chinese joints that serve really good Canto food and yumcha joints thats serve great dim sum. There's the racecourse where billions are blown on Saturdays. There are shopping plazas galore at the KCR station - with everything from Ikea tand HMV to Marks & Spencers. Hep eating joints too at the KCR, + Starbucks and Chilli N Spice and pubs. The Railway tavern nearby at Tai Wai is pretty famous too. UA Cinema also, currently playing Bond, James Bond. A fantastic museum for heritage/history buffs. Tennis courts. Ma On Shan quite close by. Boats on the river. A beautiful floating restaurant
Anyway the bottomline is: I recommend Shatin for a day spent trekking in the hills, cycling by the river, dim sum at the floating restaurant, maybe a bit of boating and some shopping at lower-than-elsewhere prices.
And if you're wondering why I'm suddenly the Sha Tin ambassador, well there's no specific reason except that I really think it's a nice place and that I wanted to contribute to getting this site going.
