travelling from Hong Kong to Hanoi overland

What's the best way to travel overland from Hong kong to Hanoi? I understand there is a train from Nanning to Hanoi but have been unable to get schedules for the train.

does anyone have information regarding this? Best and most economical way to get overland to Nanning (overnight bus from Shenzen?)
