    Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

I'm planning to travel to KK for Chinese New Year. I'm looking for more of an adventure experience rather than lounge on the beach the whole time. If someone could help me out with a few questions, that'll be great!

    1. Where to stay in KK?
    2. I want to go to Mount Kotabalu, should I book with an adventure group?
    3. Besides hiking, what other activities do you recommend?
    4. Lastly, is Chinese New Year (mid-February) a good time to go? Weather wise.

I was in and around Sabah in July for a few weeks. Depending on your budget, there are plenty of youth hostels. KK itself is quite small so none of them are very far from anything in the town. Climbing Mt Kinabalu is easy enough on your own. It's best to book as early as possible for the accommodation at the park because the only accommodation for the night you stay on the mountain is through Sutera Sanctuary Lodges and a lot of tour companies book all the rooms. Other than that you organise a guide the day you start to climb and that's all you need. The website for Sutera Sanctuary Lodges has lotsof information about the climb etc. Go to a Sabah tourism website abd you'll find plenty of info about other things to do in the area like white water rafting and scuba diving etc. If you go further afield there's also plenty of things to do on the other side of Sabah that only takes about 6 hrs by bus. Hope that helps!
