Fitting water filters to kitchen taps

Has anyone tried to fit a water filter to a kitchen tap shaped like a tiny "tentacle" attached at the "side" near the end of a cylindrical rod? (that's the best brief description I can think of)

I live in Harbourfront Horizon, and the design of the tap seems to make it very difficult for me to fit the water filter. Has anyone had similar problems?

I know not that of which you speak. Maybe a photo would help?

Generally speaking there are three types of water filter, however:

    1) Ones that fit onto the tap. They come with a range of adapters that fit most taps but if you have an unusually tentacular tap you might like to try.....

    2) One that is plumbed in to filter the water before it gets to the tap

    or

    3) One that has it's own tap, giving you one tap which provides unfiltered water and one which give you filtered water (also plumbed in).

    Alternatively, just change the tap.

Or bodge it on with a jubilee clip and a large hammer if none of the adapters fit.

Those are pretty much your options.

Or buy a jug water filter to keep in the fridge. How much filtered water do you really need after all?

You can always reroute your existing cold feed tap to be filtered, if you have a mixer you would need to run it cold for a few seconds to make sure it is filtered though. I thought if you buy a decent system such as Everpure it incl. installation of the small tentacle tap you mentioned though.

I've done it a few times. Under the sink water connection are usually 1/2inch BSPP, the hoses are available at any hardware shop.

due to some brands made in China, not all the filters fit onto the taps. I've heard you can try shop for a more "suitable" tap that will fit, but that takes quite a bit of work. Or you can just boiling the water, then put it through the water filter jug.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for your replies.
That jug water filter thing was probably the better idea. I was stupid and had already bought it when I made the post. Pretty annoying, seeing as I paid like $1000 or something around there. I heard from someone that HK water isn't that clean, so I got a bit paranoid, and wanted to use filtered water for cooking, etc. but apparently it's not too bad?

What do people do? Do they just use tap water if it's going to be boiled in the process of cooking? What if you're just washing lettuce or fruits or something for a salad? Then it's not gonna be boiled, so do you use filtered water or what?

I use water straight out of the tap for pretty much everything.

Yep - me too. HK water is completely safe until it enters your building so there is only any issue if you live somewhere with old pipes or a dodgy water distribution system within the building - anything new or newish should be fine. Locals are quite paranoid about this and ignore the facts, if that's where you got your fears from. Mind you, water does not taste great and that's why most people filter it, but you only need a jug for drinking water if taste is the issue.
