    you are INSANE!

first off... $3-4000!!!! get real! that is WAYYYY TOO MUCH!

second... CASH is EXPECTED! doesn't matter if it is your boss or not! the cash is used to help pay for the high cost of the wedding party. PLEASE follow customs and give CASH! if you really want to feel extravagant, then give $1000...BUT that is ENOUGH!!!!

Somehow I cannot envision giving my boss cash even if it is the custom, it would be like my dog throwing me a bone?
Whatever you think I strongly advise you to stick to the cutsom, whether it is your boss or not.

See Chinese Wedding are that way. The red pocket money is collected by the newly wed in order to pay back their wedding expenses.

Even tough a present is a nice idea in Western countries it will simply not be that much enjoyed here, where as cash is definitely expected.

Your first taste of local custom.

Cash is always good. How do you know what the couple really need? I keep thinking back to my own wedding...Everyone seems to think that I need tupperware and now i've tonnes of tupperware sitting in my apartment in Spore and some of them not even used. This is 4 yrs after the wedding. And yes, some useless gifts to my husband and me. Cash is really useful for the couple as like mentioned, it's used to pay for the wedding expenses and for whatever that they need.
