    Hiring a domestic helper...

    I know there are many, many posts on here about hiring a domestic helper but my head was spinning trying to work my way throught them all!

    We have three kids and are living in Sai Kung, we have a room in the house for a domestic helper and have been on the look out for someone suitable for a while.

    We have found someone through a referral that we are happy with and now is the time to get the ball rolling.

    I have some questions;

    She is currently in HK and has five days before she has to leave. If we sign a contract with her can she stay or does she have to return home and then come back again?

    Is 4,000 HKD a month including food allowance a reasonable wage? What else should be offered, if anything?

    Is there anything else that I need do do other than helper insurance?

    Many thanks in advance for your help!

    Dan

    She can usually defer her leave

    Check Bryant English's thread below about Salary, 4k is a bit low in my opinion especially with having to look after 3 kids.

    $4000 including a food allowance (i.e. she has to buy her own from that and not stuff you buy) is below the legal minimum, which is $3580 + $750 food allowance = $4330.
