yep... you cannot legally hire someone who has a working visa sponsored by another company.

Aren't there 'sideline' visas, or something like that?

not really... it IS possible to ask permission from immig to do work on the side, but i've never heard of anyone being approved, except in the case of volunteer work.

i mean, what would the reasoning be? "i can't afford living in hk on my current salary?" from what i've gathered over the years, and my own experience years ago, the immig has a $ amount in their minds (not official) and if you don't earn that, you won't get a visa. what other reason would you have for wanting "extra" work? in their minds, not mine... personally, i think that some of the restrictions are utterly ridiculous! why can an employment visa holder not take up extra work, but their spouse (on a dependent visa) can take up 15 part-time jobs if they like? huh?

Maybe the idea of that restriction is to stop people who have business owning friends of family sponsoring them for a visa to work a non-existant job, which would enable to visa applicant to then go and find any work they want for any amount of money with a legit visa to work.

Our company managed to get permission for a curriculum developer to work for us and immigration issued a second visa. He still had his working visa from his first employer who wrote a letter stating that they had reduced work load now and had no objections for him to work for another company as well.

or, to put it another way: We are seeking people with low expectations because we can't afford to hire qualified teachers. In fact, we couldn't even get someone to edit our post to this forum!

wow, so you are willing to train a "western" origin person with no experience rather than a northern, eastern, or southern person with lots of experience.
