How to tell your employer that you are pregnant?

I would appreciate some advice from this forum.

I've been working in the M&A team of a mid-size European Bank in HK for about a year now. I'm currently an associate, with previous investment banking experience in London. My husband and I are planning to start a family in HK in the near future.

How do I inform my employer than I am pregnant and at the same time that assuring them that my commitment remains the same? I plan to return to work full time post-maternity leave. In the Hong Kong working culture, am I heading towards career suicide?

Not at all, it happens all the time. Just remember to tell your employer as soon as possible which will offer you huge job protection. Also remember that maternity leave here is only 10 weeks - hardly anytime at all.

Most companies follow HK labor laws and maternity leave is only 10 weeks. So if you go back at 10 weeks its not career suicide. There are plenty of moms on Geobaby who are quite successful in their careers.

However, if after having bub you decide you'd like to try part-time then maybe. Have a read through these threads on Geobaby
