Visa Run - Dependant Visa renewal

    Hi,

Can't quite find the exact answer to this and can't remember, (addled). I know when I got my Dependant Visa initially I had to do a 'run' to get it activated but I can't remember if you need to go to Macau, (or wherever), to activate each three year extension and ultimately your PR?

    Can anyone help?

Oh, I also heard that you can't just go to Macau for the afternoon any more, you must stay overnight, is that true?

Also, can anyone explain why Immigration make people do this? Seems a bit pointless to me..

    Thanks peeps..

And no you don't need to re-enter Hong Kong when your status changes to PR.

You can apply for extensions for most types of non-permanent resident visa online: GovHK: Application for Extension of Stay - General

Thanks - actually I did the online application on your recommendation. They've still asked me to go in with the original documents of the one's I submitted via the web!! Nothing special so I think it must be random, I'm just glad I'm on holiday...

The point of the online application is that it saves you one visit - you still have to make the second visit to collect the new stamp and show the original documents.
