HK apartment window catches not working

The window catches in my apartment (which I think are quite typical in HK), are not working properly. You know the type I mean – a bit like a lever mechanism. However, they will not stay shut properly, and if some force were exerted on the inside of the window they will pop open. Yesterday I found one that seemed to have popped open of its own accord. Whilst the windows have grilles so are not dangerous to people, I am worried about my cat!

Does anyone know if these are easily fixed by a handyman, or will I need to get the landlord to get a window specialist to come out to them? I’m reluctant to involve the landlord if I can, as it usually means additional time off work for me whilst he sends someone out to look at it, before then deciding it needs to be fixed…

Visit one of the many aluminium window retail shops in Lockhart road,Causeway Bay, with printed photos of the window at hand, that includes visual detail of the type of snib/catch/handle on your particular window, so they can arrange for a sefu to go out and rectify the problem, with compatible parts.

It will probably cost you in the vicinity of $300 for a call out fee, plus the cost of parts if any are required..
