    Mysterious callers at night

While we were out last night my helper said that the doorbell rang at 9.30pm. She was in bed but got up to answer it. We have one of those gates outside the front door so she only opened the door and spoke through the gate. There was a man claiming to be from PCCW who wanted to come in. She refused and closed the door. She then heard him conversing in Cantonese with a neighbour and the conversation didn't sound friendly.
We are with i-Cable and Vodafone so why would someone from PCCW be at our house at that time of night? Or is this someone trying to con his way in?

Do you have any issues with your neighbour? Maybe he/she is setting you up? Likely a salesman trying to offer his products? I suppose there is a chance of him being a robber looking for some "easy kill" with a expat. Or maybe a legit pccw mechanic/salesman, but simply went to the wrong address?

No issues that I am aware of, we exchange friendly greetings in the lift etc. So maybe someone genuinely is trying to sell a PCCW contract?

This happens on a regular basis in DB. Basically from what I understand, PCCW sub-contract sales of their products and these 'jokers' arrive unannounced, often at night, and sometimes get their way into your home on the pretext of checking your stations for a possible upgrade, yadda yadda.

My rule is that I never, ever let anyone across my doorstep whom I haven't booked an appointment for, no matter what ID they might hold. My hubby did once and by the time he called me the guy had my TV on and apparently can check into account information that way....he was going to give us an 'upgrade' with a paper to be signed so I told my hubby to chase him out immediately and do not sign anything.

I don't think there's anything more sinister at work, than veiled attempts to get more PCCW business out of you.

Probably neighbor wasn't happy about PCCW being at their doorstep at such an hour.
I've had the same done to me (door bell ringing by PCCW) around 9:30ish when I lived in DB. In current apt they would never get passed security.
