Need to send an int'l fax

Does anybody know where I can send a fax internationally? I need to send out just one fax. Have a fax machine at home but we do not have IDD on our landline or mobile phones (the machine is mostly to receive faxes).

    Will appreciate your quick response....

    Thanks!

Buy a $20 prepaid international calling card from somewhere then use that to place the call (this may not work since some calling cards use public internet and aren't fax-capable). Or signup for an IDD service online such as IDT1529 (http://www.idt1529.net) and the service will be activated within 20 mins or so and then you can use your line to make the call. You get $28 of credit for signing up, so it won't cost you anything either. (You need a credit card to complete the sign-up even though no money is taken until after you've got your fist monthly bill after you've used the signup credit, if you see what I mean).

But can't I just go some place or shop and have my fax sent and pay them for that? This is odd. There must be some service of this sort in HK. People who cannot send personal faxes from their office and who do not have IDD for landline at home, must go somewhere to send an international fax (or even a local fax) if required.

Try chinese book shop and places where they provide photocopying.

How do you send fax by mobile?

Go to any of the major hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui and they should be able to help you.

I fail to understand why you have spent days worrying about this when it could be all done and dusted in 30 minutes online from home?

The post office may have a fax service.

I would also confirm another posters suggestion about a major hotel. Big hotels often have dedicated business centers.

If the fax fails you, you can send a telegram from the P.O.

Then again you might be able to send you document as an Attachment in a word-processing program, like Word.

There are also programs around that allow you to send faxes directly from the PC now. You can do it through XP. You don't have to have a paper copy.

If you are interested, I will rummage through my files for some info.

There we go. Some solutions that will work. PDLM, I have already worked my way around it this time. But I was really curious to have an answer if there is a next time.
The online fax services require you to sign up, but do you also need to pay a monthly fee for it? Or can you just pay for every fax that you send?
Seamale, I am not sure how to send fax via a mobile, but I do know that it is possible.
Going to a hotel and using their business center is also a good option. And also going to a post office (knowing myself I would end up at the GPO itself). Photocopying places I don't know. We have one in our building but they do not have any fax facility.
I appreciate all your replies friends. Next time I'll know where to start looking.

Glad you got it sorted. The IDD service I mentioned is a full IDD service. No monthly fees - you just pay for what you use. And you get $28 of credit to start you off - which would get you up to 155 mins of free calls from your mobile to countries such as USA, Canada, UK (fixed line) etc. (Or, say, 23.7 minutes to The Philippines, or 14.9 minutes to India.)
