I don't remember it (being three at the time) but a tree was uprooted and crushed my dad's week-old beemer. He tells me as if it was a story of a love once lost ....

Aw! A large tree just missed my parents' car. We had the day off school. It was weird, I remember waking up and there was complete silence (I was living in S E London) and very very dark as the power was out.

The storm didn't really effect us. I just remember Michael Fish being so arrogant and patronising to the woman who suggested a hurricane might be coming. Perhaps he is now an expat in HK?

That reminds me of this past winter. I love many things about the UK (fish and chips, English Premier League, Mr. Bean, etc) and I don't mean to be cruel, but as a Canadian, I can't help but laugh at the total chaos London experienced with a few light dusting of snow. A little snow and Heathrow grounded to a halt, while in Toronto or Montreal, we would hardly have noticed.

"light dusting of snow" was about a foot deep, if I am not mistaken. A normal occurence in Montreal and Toronto maybe - unheard of in London. That's why it came to a standstill!
