    New to Baguio

    Greetings

Moved the family (Mum, Dad + 3.5 yo twins) into into Lower Baguio on Wednesday from Australia and loving it. Place is great - large and clean, great views and great Park'N'Shop.

Just had a couple of questions if anyone can help.

    • Broadband: Relocation agent told me that cable was no good - dropouts all the time. We have 2 cable outlets in living room and master b/r and I would prefer to use them rather than PCCW coming through laying telephone line all over the place. Any recommendations or warnings?
    • Buses: Caught the number 8 minibus into Central and it was OK but is there a quicker way? Bus from Cyberport for example.
    • Water: Is it OK to drink water from the tap?

A big hello to all the other geoexpatters in the place

    Thanks very much in advance.

    Andrew

IMO Cabel tv is a waste of time - you want Now Broadband from PCCW.

Mini buses are cheaper and faster but sometimes are a bit of a wild ride.

Big long thread on water recently basically - quality varies depending on the pipes in your building. Probably ok to drink it - I did at my last place but now I buy bottled. 80% of your body is water - good to make sure it is of a decent quality.

It's more the cable internet I'm interested in - I seem to have found 11 channels on the cable just after running a quick scan. Unfortunately (for me) many are in Chinese.

Thanks for the other info larac

    Welcome to the hood!

If you're going to Causeway Bay the 69X from Cyberport is faster as it goes through the Aberdeen tunnel.

    # 8 and 28 are both the fastest to Central.

For the internet get yourself a wireless router and then you can have internet anywhere you want with no wires at all. I love it and will never go back - recently isited a freind in Sydney and the internet sucked.

We use Netvigater from PCCW and have had no troubles - it costs $212 per month and the router was about $600 I think.

    We generally boil the water.

I had a read of the recent thread discussing water that larac mentioned and came away not being any clearer (pun intended).

The water is clear, the pipes appear to be copper so as long as the tank on the roof is in good nick, I'd be happy to take my chances on tap water and let the rest of the family drink bottled stuff and see how I feel in a week.

PCCW are coming soon to install adsl and now tv.

What a fantastic looking day today too

    Thanks for the replies

Found out that there's an express bus too - took my wife 15 minutes door to door. Can't complain about that!
