Terminated Helper Hire Question (Domestic Helper)

    Hi

I've got a question related to hiring a helper whose contract will be terminated prematurely (and the reason is not one of those that allow her to stay in HK, she must go back to philippines)

Then, its mandatory for me to use an agent to bring her here. I've done some inquiry on the cost, and for example one reputable (In my opinion) place quoted me around 5000 HKD total (but there is no additional charge to be borne by the helper).

I was just wondering if this price range sounds reasonable to those of you whom had similar experience. Thank you

I would say it is perhaps a bit high but not ridiculously so.

I don't know if its mandatory to use an agency. You can try and submit the paperwork on your own.

Please make sure you know her and have met her....before you get yourself in a contract that you might have to terminate as well.

Nway, No need for agency you can file yourself and she should know what has to be done. If not google it on HKimmgration website.

    Hi, thanks for the replies

Are you sure about this ? I've done extensive research on this and it seems unless the helper has

    - finished her contract
    - terminated due to employer's death/relocation/financial difficulty

She must go back to Philippine and we must process from there. And when you hire a helper from Philippine it is mandatory to use one of the approved agents

Oh, and we do know the helper relatively well (but of course you can never really know someone well enough)

I was told by many people that you can do it yourself - I got an agent because I didn't have the time to spend at immigration or the Philippine Consulate.
The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region - Immigration Department

Edit: Just seen this thread on Geobaby, rules have changed...?

For terminated helpers, they do need to go home, but they can start the paperwork before they leave. The consulate, can notarize the contracts etc. Once you have those, she can return home and you will need to submit the paperwork to Immigration. You can do this by simply dropping it in the box at immigration or mailing it in.

However, now that there all these new insurance/trainings, that the helpers need to get/do in the Philippines, am not sure if immigration is advising employers to use an agency. I would go ahead and do the first steps on your own, and then try and submit to immigration and see what they say. If you do need to go the agency route, the cost should be around $3200, including 1 way air-fare. Not sure about the cost of the new insurance.

Yes it's infuriating. My helper who had worked for me for two years in Singapore, 2 years for someone else AND spent 10 years in Hong Kong as a FDH before that - had to return to Philippines for "training " as part of the process. What a waste of time and money!

    Hi All

I need urgent help on hiring a helper who is already in Hongkong. My questions are :

    A) The helper was terminated prematurely and her visa is valid till July 21.If I want to hire her , does she need to go back to Philipines and wait for the visa to arrive ?

    B) Do I mandatorily need to have an agency do this contract signing for us OR it can be done by the helper and us.The helper has her papers in order.

    C) What papers do I need to prepare and how much time I should budget for visa processing ?

    Request urgent help on this.
