Ask the green taxi to take you to where the red taxis are.
Problem solved.
The link (my link) shows the routes through via Tsuen Wan, Shing Mun Tunnel, Ma on Shan etc that green taxis and take and if you look at it you can see it covers the route one would want to take. PDLM's point was that you are *supposed* to take those routes in/out (to a variety of named places, like hospitals, the race track etc) not "link up" the allowed routes and go through. Which seems bizarre to me. When this first happened to me I rang up the taxi office and they did not tell me I could not take that route - in fact I think it was them who pointed me to the map on the website.
Where we are (Southside) if a parcel is delivered, you just sign the packet (or the funny machine). If only the helper is home (they dont have the addressee's HKID card) they do same.
We have books/computer bits delivered quite often.
If no-one is in the flat, the guard takes the parcel from the postman and comes running with it, when you arrive home. Same postman for years, now, friendly guy.
Once I went to collect a parcel taking the 'parcel waiting' card with me, they needed DH ID card to release packet, but gave it me anyway, as guy recognised me, maybe. He didn't insist.
Maybe your postman is following the letter a bit too much, partly as he doesnt know you, or can't recognise gweilos, one from another?
Does anyone know the protocol they use for deciding whether too leave the parcel with the security guard or leave the card in the mailbox? I have had both with big and small packages. Didn't seem to be anything different about the packages.
Wish they would always leave it with the guard downstairs, since I don't live near the post office that they take the parcel to. It is the main reason I try to get stuff sent by courier if possible, since they do night delivery.

Haven't read all of the thread but I was just wondering did the discussion about taxis come about via Thurn und Taxis?
