Citibank platinum has some really good discounts and special promotions if you like shopping and dining out (and they're easy to get these days, you only need to make $300,000 a year to get one.)
Curious, speaking of income levels, how do they validate it? especially if you just moved here. i opened an integrated HangSeng bank acct and they offered a pre-approved cc - i just had to fill out a form stating my income - no other form of validation...do they pull up your tax records from last year?
I wouldn't have a clue, they offered me a platinum credit card when I put a chunk of money into my bank account, and I don't even have a job for goodness' sake.
If you're an expat, you'll probably be able to get one easily, they're basically handing out their platinum cards these days.
We actually had quite thes truggle getting a credit card. We put our money into HSBC and, to make a long story short, we now have Citibank cards. Citibank, while not easy, was far easier than HSBC.
And I have a job.
I agree with Mike, Citibank Platinum offers good discounts and you can use it to get into airport lounge at HK airport. Citibank also has a bunch of airline associated cards. I fly Cathay a lot and can earn extra club miles and mileage with Asiamiles. I can even get miles by referring you, are you interested?

Would this help??

Er, no.
"Club Miles" are different from Asiamiles, and he said "I fly Cathay a lot and can earn extra club miles and mileage with Asiamiles.", implying that he earned both extra Club Miles and Asiamiles with his Citibank card. It is clear how he earns Asiamiles, but not clear how he earns Club Miles.
