    Alcoholics.

does anyone know of any support groups in hong kong for alcoholics apart from the AA? i find their 12 steps do not apply to anyone who is not religious and it would be hard for the person to take them seriously... any help would be appreciated; weird request i know.

I had the same impression. The honesty part is good, the religious part is not for me.

Perhaps we could set up a group discussion online and simply chat through it in cyberspace?

I thought the same thing at one point, and then someone explained to me that when you're told to find "a higher power" it doesn't have to be god. It can be nature, or even a door-knob. It sounded so funny that I just went with it.
I have no roots in traditional religion and that part of AA freaked me out a bit. Once I realized that you don't have to make that the focus at all, I felt much better.
It's been nearly 6 years since I've had a drink now.
Mostly I go to AA to remind myself that I'm not alone with my struggle. I can't say that I do a great job "working the steps" but I'm very glad that it's there.

There is now an Atheists and Agnostics Group in AA - look at their website. The God thing isn't for everyone but the support is great as ProperJosh has mentioned.
