I liked it, but I'm a little confused by the usage of "anachronism" here. That isn't what you meant, is it?

    1. High taxes, yes but then you get the services and social security system to match
    2. Limited employment opportunities, at the moment perhaps
    3. Long commuting time, no
    4. Unreliable transport system, no
    5. Shops close too early, many open 24 hours, bit of a bugger at the 25th hour of the day I know
    6. People are lazy, yes
    7. Too many foreigners in important public services like teaching and medical, no
    8. Too many people on benefits, no
    9. High levels of violence and crime, yes compared to HK
    10. People are rude and unpolite, not at all

It all depends where you live in the UK!

OK - I'll go with the OP ...

    my x = UK
    1. Weather
    2. High taxes
    3. Traffic jams
    4. Low quality public services
    5. Terrible public transport outside London
    6. Unfriendly people in London (but I wouldn't want to live in London so not sure if this counts)
    7. Inability to communicate in English in England. LIke the OP, I actually find this to be incredibly irritating. at least here's I know it's my own fault I can't speak their language!
    8. Ran out of ideas here.

On balance, I'd hate to move back to the UK. I'd go back to Australia though. Possibly even NZ!

Your point being that "anachronism" is normally used to describe something that is "out of it's time". I assumed that I could get away with using the word to describe a word usage that for something that is unsual or invented; perhaps I can, or perhaps, I too, am being "anachronistic" in my usage...

    UK no...

    Chavs/ generally more crime
    Tax
Poor attitude towards education/ hardwork by many
    Pessimism
    Moaning/ blaming often trumping proactivity
Living on debt (applies to the public and the govt)
Abuse of benefit system by a significant minority
    Minolingual society (guilty as charged)
    Winter

    UK yes

    Supermarkets
English language (shame it's the only language though!)
    Socialising
    Entertainment (music, theatre, etc)
(some) schools/ education... more focus on creativity, more opportunities at university level
General disapprovement of prejudice/ immoral behaviour, although of course there are exceptions
Work hours/ holidays in some industries... I'm not talking about me... I get it good in HK too.
    Size of (an affordable) home
    Summer

That's a few examples. I genuinely don't know where I want to live in five years time.. it changes by the week.

Most foreign doctors and teachers in the UK are recruited from Commonwealth countries; not many EU countries that qualify as such.

Personal opinion or not, it doesn't change the fact that it's bigoted. Worst so since you use, by your own admission, a single experience to brush all foreigners with the same stroke.

But perhaps you prefer not to fill the holes of teachers in particular and provide proper education, thus reinforcing items 8. and 9. on your list instead?

That used to be true. Not now since EU borders allow anyone to work anywhere. The UK workforce seems to have changed out of all recognition in the last 10 years or so. Remarkable but not always for the best.
