Moving Belongings to Australia via Post?

Hello all. I’m sadly going to be moving to Sydney in a few weeks. Since I mostly have just clothes and tchotchke I’m thinking of using the regular old post instead of movers (or removalist as my partner would say).

Has anyone had experience with shipping their things to Australia? I know they are quite strict with wood products and plants but will there be any problems with declaring things as non-taxable?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Umm, there you go cobber, http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4835

Personal belongings are not taxed or dutied on a general rule, not unless you include cars, aircraft and boats into whats classified as a personal item...

The customs website is very clear, with no grey area's, you won't find a more zero tolerant govt dept in Australia/NZ, and for good responsible reasons if you ask me...

For shipping, try google "excess baggage from hong kong". Sending it at "excess baggage" is a reasonably priced and easy way of getting your stuff to Australia relatively quickly. Much cheaper than post and less fuss than movers.
