    Fixed Phone Number/Line

I'm thinking of dropping my residential fixed phone number / line as most of my calls go to my mobile phone anyways.

i was told that this won't affect broadband service.

just wondering if there are any reason/s why i should continue with the residential phone number line?

Ensure that you can get reception on your mobile in your residence.

I did this and then I realised that 2 or 3 times a year I really, really needed to fax something from home. So after a gap of about 3 months I reinstated my line at home. $110/month is hardly going to break the bank, and it solves the occasional fax problem. Plus if you commit for a while they give you something like a Videocam or somesuch.

How can this not affect your broadband service unless your on cable, if your on DSL then you need a phone line for internet ??

You need the physical wires for the DSL broadband, but there's no reason why you need to pay for a traditional phone service down them as well.
