Don't know if this particular monitor is really from HK's habitat, but it's hilarious how locals over-react to any critters slightly different from what they "normally" see. I think it's time for locals here to accept that a healthy natural environment requires not just prey but also predators. Mutual respect is required, but from the look of things and the hysterical reaction from the local press, that looks to be a long way off.
More likely some exotic pet that has ran lose. No relation with air pollution.
It's different with the shark, I don't see anyone in HK having man-eating sharks as exotic pets....as far as I know (ocean park notwithstanding-it's not likely someone stole a shark from ocean park and intentionally release it in Stanley...hahaha).
