Yes, Hong Kong's cost of living is low (ignoring housing costs) if you live like a local

    That is berry annoying.

In Africa, long-term expats are probably comforting themselves with "At least it's not North Korea!" Or maybe they use Antarctica or St. Helena?

But is it worth the total misery you live through here? Life isn't all about money.

I hate to admit it, but I would say that because I cook at home mostly, probably less than 10% of my diet is from either Hong Kong or China….don't even buy Chinese chicken or vegetables unless I absolutely have to. Buy a lot of imported frozen stuff, but its not that bad. I don't know how much I pay more than a local, but then a lot of stuff i eat they probably do not, especially on KW side. I have figured out that my average monthly food budget in about 30% more than home. Good thing is not import duties or sales tax on food.

I'm certainly on no expat wage. But as I've said before, I have a great social life here and I really like it.

Thanks for details, this will help me further reducing my monthly expense...

I don't understand why are we talking about 10-20% of total monthly budget where 50% part is just ignored.
